چکیده
Lyme disease is a tick-borne infectious disease caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. Infection in most horses appears to be subclinical. Clinical signs most commonly attributed to Lyme disease in horses include low-grade fever, stiffness and lameness in more than one limb, muscle tenderness, hyperaesthesia, swollen joints, lethargy and behavioural changes. Diagnosis is made on the basis of the horse being housed in an endemic area, compatible clinical signs, ruling out other causes for these signs and a high titre using kinetic enzymelinked immunosorbent assay, other serological tests or positive western blot (WB) test results for anti-B. burgdorferi antibodies. Treatments include oral doxycycline, i.v. oxytetracycline or i.m. ceftiofur.

Brucellosis is a major disease of domesticated and wild animals worldwide, and is also an important zoonosis. Of the domesticated species, cattle, sheep, pigs and goats are most commonly affected, and reproductive failure is the most common clinical manifestation. Infection in horses is uncommon, but is usually associated with infectious bursitis, arthritis or tenosynovitis. Less commonly, case...

Cryptosporidium parvum is a coccidian parasite that infects the microvilli of intestinal epithelial cells. Strains that infect horses and cattle can also infect man, and therefore cryptosporidiosis is a zoonotic disease. In horses, cryptosporidiosis is most commonly seen in foals (most frequently 1–4 weeks of age) and is associated with diarrhoea and weight loss. Immunocompromised foals (includ...

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma was diagnosed in a 15-yearold donkey that presented with signs of chronic laminitis, weight loss and chronic colic. An intra-abdominal mass was identified by exploratory laparoscopy, and this was subsequently confirmed to be a pancreatic adenocarcinoma at post mortem examination. Unlike most previously reported cases of pancreatic disease in equids, this donkey had no ...

Ross River virus is an arthropod-borne virus (arbovirus) and the cause of the most common mosquito-borne human disease in Australia, being frequently associated with a debilitating polyarthritis. Serological evidence would indicate that subclinical infections with the virus are widespread in horses in many areas of the country. Clinical disease can occur in horses, with affected animals display...
متن کاملTowards an information-theoretically safe cryptographic protocol
We introduce what –if some kind of group action exists– is a truly (information-theoretically) safe cryptographic communication system: a protocol which provides zero information to any passive adversary having full access to the channel. 1. The false algorithm, simple version Assume Alice wants to share a secret s, which we assume for simplicity is a non-zero rational number s = p/q ∈ Q⋆. For ...
